The brain of an addict physically changes when he or she continues the kind of behaviour that drives their addiction, especially when the addiction involves drugs or alcohol. However, any stimulating response can cause changes that lead to addiction.

People use drugs or alcohol to escape, relax, or reward themselves. You sometimes use more than you would like to use. For example, one drink leads to another, or one line of cocaine leads to more. You continue to use them despite adverse consequences. For example, you continue to drink even though it hurts your relationships.

The most critical consequences of addiction are social, emotional, and psychological. People usually think of the physical and economic effects of addiction. I dont have a serious addiction because my health is fine, and I havent lost my job. But those are very late stage consequences. Those are the consequences that can motivate you to begin recovery.

We undergo 12 necessary fundamental procedures in the path of recovery that will help you prevent potential negative consequences of addiction so that you will be ready to quit before you have lost everything.

Dr Arun Vangili Psychiatrist He has been practising Psychiatry since 2007, he has worked as a chief medical officer of the de addiction unit in an institute of mental health, Chennai in 2012. He worked in Indias premier psychiatry institute, NIMHANS, Bangalore, where he worked closely with young people suffering drug abuse. Since 2014 he has been living and working in Coimbatore. Dr. Alagappan General Physician He has finished his medical degree in 2001 from Moscow. Has 18 years of experience in medical practice. Worked in a corporate hospital for 6 years. Worked in a couple of seva organizations. He loves to interact with people. V. Shreya Mythrei Clinical Psychologist Shreya Mythrei has completed her MA in Applied Psychology with a Specialization in Clinical Psychology from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai and her MPhil in Clinical Psychology from National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru. She is also a registered practitioner of the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). Mytheri draws her principles of Humanistic psychotherapy, attachment-based psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy.
